Osteopaths search for the cause of a physical limitation, and then use gentle techniques to correct it so that the body can move again in a normal painless way. Structural osteopathy is based on four basic principles:
- Each body structure supports the body function. If any structure is damaged, out of place or not functioning properly, then the body will not function optimally.
- The natural flow of body fluids – lymphatic, vascular and neurological – must be preserved.
- The human body is the cooperation of different systems. The physical, emotional, social, spiritual and cognitive systems do not work independently but in harmony.
- If the body has no restrictions, then it naturally has the ability to heal itself.
Manual therapy and is a specialisation of physiotherapy. Osteopaths recognise that a body is an integrated whole. If all physical components are in balance, the person is entirely healthy.
