Ultrasound
Through ultrasound examination, it is possible to make the correct diagnosis and provide you with the appropriate treatment. What is ultrasound?
With ultrasound, images can be made of the musculoskeletal system: tendons, muscles, ligaments, bursae, bones, and joints. This allows us to visualize various conditions. Including irritations of tendons; such as abnormalities in the Achilles tendon, a possible tennis elbow, and calcifications in tendons (for example, around the shoulder). A heel spur or bursitis can also be visualized using ultrasound.
Through ultrasound examination, it is possible to make the correct diagnosis and provide you with the appropriate treatment. We can refer you to our general practitioner or specialist if necessary. If you undergo treatment with us, we can monitor your recovery by occasionally conducting ultrasound examinations during this period.
What does ultrasound have to offer?
Ultrasound offers a non-invasive method to obtain diagnostic information of the musculoskeletal system at relatively low costs. The examination is quick, easy, comfortable for the patient, and can be repeated as often as necessary. The advantage of ultrasound is that dynamic images can be obtained, unlike X-rays and MRI which only provide static images. In ultrasound, soft tissues such as tendons, capsules, ligaments, and even arteries and nerves can be seen (these structures are not visible on an X-ray). During an ultrasound diagnostic examination, the patient can actively participate by indicating when and with which movement the complaints increase or decrease. The investigator can then immediately establish a relationship between the complaint and the images he sees. The investigator can then immediately establish a relationship between the complaint and the images he sees.
Which diagnoses can be made?
- Inflammations
- Ruptures
- Fluid accumulations
- Dislocations
- Cysts
- Lesions
What is the added value in practice?
The use of ultrasound at Medifit HCB rehabilitation center aims to gain a visual understanding of the suspected pathology of the patient. As a result, a diagnosis can be made more quickly, allowing for the most appropriate treatment plan to be developed. During the series of treatments, ultrasound can provide visual feedback regarding the development of the recovery process and the followed treatment plan. If necessary, this treatment plan can be adjusted based on the results visualized.
At Medifit rehabilitation center, we also perform various invasive treatments under the guidance of ultrasound. In therapeutic techniques such as PNE or neuromodulation, where tissue is stimulated using an acupuncture needle, one can precisely see whether the correct tissue is being stimulated. Our rehabilitation doctor makes frequent use of ultrasound for diagnostics but also when he needs to inject tissue with an anti-inflammatory, plasma (PRP), or botulinum toxin (to reduce spasms).
