Occupational Therapy

You only realize that movement is not so simple when you start experiencing discomfort.

Occupational therapy enables you to (re)perform daily activities or participate in activities within your own environment and in society.

If you experience limitations in daily activities that are important to you due to (health) problems, occupational therapy may be necessary. A physical or psychological problem, or delayed development, can limit independence.

Our occupational therapist primarily determines what you can still do. The treatment may consist of:
• Exercises
• Learning to perform an activity in a different way
• Using an assistive device
• Modifying an activity or the environment
• Providing education to caregivers and close family and friends

By enhancing your (own) abilities, meaningful daily activities become possible again, allowing you to function (longer) at home. The occupational therapist advises and trains you so that you can perform your daily activities as independently as possible. When thinking about daily activities, consider tasks such as washing and dressing yourself, preparing meals, vacuuming, cycling, working, exercising, and playing billiards. At Medifit HCB, the occupational therapist supports both adults and the elderly.

What Does a Treatment Look Like?

Occupational therapy does not only take place in the treatment room at Medifit. Often, the occupational therapist comes to the location where the problems occur. For example, at home or at work.

Advice, Training, and Coaching

The occupational therapist works with you to find a solution to the problem. The goal is to ensure that you can enjoy performing activities again, with support and guidance from the occupational therapist.

Occupational therapy is personalized care.

The occupational therapist first engages in a conversation with you about what is truly important to you. Afterward, the occupational therapist observes your daily activities. This way, the occupational therapist maps out the limitations and possibilities.

Collaboration with other healthcare providers

If necessary, the occupational therapist collaborates with other healthcare providers within the Medifit rehabilitation center. Such as:

  • General practitioner
  • Physiotherapist
  • Exercise therapist
  • Speech therapist
  • Dietitian
