Orofacial therapy (ATM)
The ultimate goal of orofacial therapy is to reduce pain and/or disorders in the head, neck, and facial area.Orofacial therapy is a specialization within physiotherapy. The ultimate goal of the treatment is to reduce pain and/or disorders in the head, neck, and facial area.
The treatment consists of manual techniques in the head, neck, and facial area on one hand, and an exercise program on the other. This homework program is an important part of the rehabilitation process and consists of exercises to strengthen joint function and muscles in the face and neck area.
Orofacial therapy is applied for the following complaints:
- Jaw complaints
- Jaw clenching and teeth grinding
- Pain in the face, jaw, or head
- Facial paralysis
- Headache complaints
- Consequences of accidents and fractures, cancer, rheumatism, and other diseases with complaints in the head and neck area
- Complaints in the head and neck area related to tension factors
