The MedifitReha Rehabilitation Center , located on the Costa Blanca in Spain, was founded by Miguel Martorell Schonenberg and Gerard Krol. Both studied physical therapy at Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Eindhoven. After completing their education, they pursued numerous continuing education courses, including manual therapy, sports physical therapy, and rehabilitation therapy. They gained work experience at various rehabilitation centers in the Netherlands (Eindhoven), England (London), Italy (Milan), and Spain (Valencia).
In 1998, we reunited and started a physical therapy practice in Moraira. We brought together many disciplines at the practice to provide our patients with the best possible care. The clinic quickly expanded to include various disciplines. This led to the idea of starting a rehabilitation center with a unique rehabilitation philosophy.
In September 2002, the time had come: the MedifitReha International Rehabilitation Center was officially established. Drawing on experience gained at various major rehabilitation centers across Europe, a range of rehabilitation programs has been developed. The primary guiding principle of all rehabilitation programs is personalized, intensive rehabilitation tailored to the patient’s needs and capabilities.
Today, the MedifitReha Rehabilitation Center is known as one of the best rehabilitation centers in Europe.
Treatments and the rehabilitation process
At MedifitReha, you’ll find a professional team of therapists and medical specialists who specialize in rehabilitation medicine. We have extensive hands-on experience treating a wide range of neurological, physical, psychological, and cognitive conditions.
We guide and monitor patients throughout the rehabilitation process, from the first day to the last day of their treatment. Our goal is to provide highly qualified care and efficient rehabilitation tailored to each individual’s specific condition. We achieve this by taking ample time for each patient. We constantly adapt the rehabilitation program to what is possible at any given time. This personalized (1:1), patient-centered, and intensive approach is what makes our concept unique!
Medifit HCB Team
Our treatment team is led by a rehabilitation physician, and we hold multidisciplinary meetings every week to discuss each patient’s progress. The rehabilitation center is led by a management team that ensures everything runs smoothly and efficiently.
Rehabilitation Costs and Reimbursements
We take care of all the necessary administrative formalities so that you can focus entirely on your rehabilitation. Our rehabilitation programs are private treatments and are not covered, or are only partially covered, by private health insurance plans.
Health insurers regularly change their policies, and not all of them operate in the same way. Some offer no reimbursement at all, while others may cover part of the costs if you have the freedom to choose your own doctor.
Back home
When you return home, you will receive a medical discharge summary, and an English translation if desired. If necessary, we will contact your primary care physician or specialist to ensure continuity of your care.
Collaborations with Other Medical Specialists
We want to do our very best to provide you with the best possible care. That is why collaboration is important. Rehabilitation is, in fact, one of the links in the healthcare chain. The care provided at our rehabilitation center is coordinated with other specialties, such as those in hospitals, nursing homes, and home care services, as well as with your primary care physician and other primary care disciplines.
If possible, before you begin a rehabilitation program with us, we’ll contact your current healthcare provider to prepare as thoroughly as possible for your arrival. At the end of the rehabilitation program, we always write a detailed final report so that your doctor, specialist, or therapist is fully informed about what we’ve done and our recommendations for any follow-up care once you return home.
