For people with an amputation, MedifitReha offers a first-class rehabilitation treatment. During this treatment you learn to get the most out of your abilities.

Rehabilitation usually takes place on an outpatient basis; you will come to our facility in Teulada – Moraira a few times a week. Sometimes this is not possible. For example, because you need a lot of care or are temporarily unable to live at home. The rehabilitation doctor will decide together with you whether an admission is necessary. How long you will be hospitalised depends on your personal situation..

Wound care

At the beginning of your rehabilitation, wound healing will be the most important goal. The stitches will still be in your stump. You will need to protect your stump, but it is also important to work on your physical condition. In addition, the fluid in your stump should be reduced as much as possible. There are different methods for this. The rehabilitation doctor will discuss with you which method is most suitable for you.

Stand and walk with a prosthesis

Stand and gait training starts without a prosthesis. You will slowly expand this training by walking with an exercise prosthesis and with the help of aids. Before you are fitted with your own prosthesis, it is important that most of the fluid in your stump has disappeared. Your stump will not change much in size.

Progressive treatment

The aim is that after rehabilitation in our rehabilitation centre you can function as independently as possible at home, both with and without a prosthesis and/or aids. If, for example, you need a wheelchair, crutches, walker, or transport aids, these can be requested in consultation with you.

During the rehabilitation period, there will be regular attention for processing and accepting your amputation. If you feel the need, the psychologist/psychotherapist can guide you in processing and acceptance.

The duration of the treatment varies from person to person. It depends on the healing of your stump wound, your condition, and the speed with which you learn the skills. Together with the therapists, you will work towards being as independent as possible at the end of your treatment.
