“Insight and Development: The Journey of Psychology”

We all have thoughts and feelings, and some of these thoughts and feelings can maintain and reinforce bad habits. A psychologist can help you change your behavior by addressing what you think and what you feel.

The Treatment

The psychologists at Medifit Reha rehabilitation center work with various methodologies, primarily cognitive behavioral therapy, with other methodologies added to the treatment when necessary.

Within the framework of their work, it is possible to shape the intensity of the treatment, from a more coaching form of treatment to a therapeutic treatment.

EMDR

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and is a proven effective treatment method for processing distressing experiences.

EMDR was developed in 1989 by Francine Shapiro to process traumatic events. Certain events can deeply impact people’s lives. A large portion of those affected “process” these experiences on their own. Others develop psychological complaints.

The EMDR treatment will gradually lead to the memory/trauma losing its power and emotional charge. It becomes increasingly easier to think back to the original event. In many cases, the memory images themselves also change. The treatment helps the shocking experience to increasingly find a place in the person’s life history.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a combination of behavioral therapy and talk therapy. One of the founders of this therapy, American psychiatrist Aaron T. Beck, developed a theory and treatment approach that focuses on the client’s cognitions: their thoughts, fantasies, memories, and their perceptions of events.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is one of the most widely used forms of treatment in the Netherlands. It is a short-term, structured form of therapy that focuses on the present and the future. The client’s story is important, and you learn to interpret negative thoughts differently, gaining a more objective view of your own feelings and perceptions. This can make negative feelings disappear and will change behavior.

It is a practical approach with training in the treatment room, in real life, and through homework.
