For whom is speech therapy appropriate?
Speech therapy at Medifit is suitable for adults experiencing difficulties in communication, swallowing, voice or cognitive functioning, regardless of age or background.
We provide evaluation and treatment for conditions such as:

- Swallowing difficulties (dysphagia)

- Cognitive impairments (attention, memory, planning)
We also support patients with neurological conditions including stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), ALS and other neurodegenerative disorders.
Speech therapy at Medifit is available in English, Dutch and French, allowing international patients to receive treatment in their preferred language.
Medifit also supports patients who have already started speech therapy in another country and wish to continue or temporarily maintain their treatment while staying in Spain.
This is particularly beneficial for international patients with chronic or neurological conditions who spend part of the year on the Costa Blanca. Speech therapy can be seamlessly continued, ensuring treatment continuity, clinical consistency and optimal rehabilitation outcomes.
Nick Vandenhoudt – Speech Therapist
Speech therapy at Medifit is provided by Nick Vandenhoudt, an experienced speech therapist specialised in adult neurological conditions.
Nick graduated as a speech therapist in Antwerp in 2005 and has over 20 years of clinical experience in the treatment of adults with communication, swallowing, voice and cognitive disorders.
He has extensive experience working with patients affected by stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), ALS and other neurodegenerative conditions.
His approach is patient-centred and evidence-based, focusing on functional recovery, compensatory strategies and the preservation of independence. Treatment is delivered in close collaboration with Medifit’s multidisciplinary team.
Home-based speech therapy is available for patients with limited mobility.
What makes speech therapy at Medifit unique is our clinical and multidisciplinary approach. Speech therapy is never delivered in isolation, but as part of a coordinated rehabilitation process.
You work closely with an experienced speech therapist, supported by a broader team of doctors, physiotherapists, psychologists and other rehabilitation specialists. This close collaboration allows us to address communication, swallowing and cognitive challenges within the wider neurological and physical context of each patient.
